Redgate Sports support children aged 7 to 18 years. The children we support tend to have faced a variety of challenges, often find it hard to take part in sport, and may be finding things difficult on a day-to-day basis:
They may be finding things hard at home and/or at school
They may be at risk of exclusion or have been excluded
It may be that they can thrive in the long-term with a bit more support now
Our specific target groups are:
Care experienced children
Children with a special educational need diagnosis or concern
Children from low income families (free school meals)
Children who are vulnerable
We deliver in Mainstream Schools, Special Schools, Alternative Provision Schools. We also deliver to children who are not currently attending education.
Why?
It is great that sport is working in a more inclusive way. However, if we are in the business of reaching the most vulnerable and improving life outcomes, then just offering a few sport sessions is not enough.
At Redgate Sports we address inequalities in access to sport. Then, in addition, we address inequalities in the benefits derived from sport. We do this by:
Providing physical Activity in a psychologically safe environment
Developing New Skills – both sport and wider life skills
Strengthen their support network – through mentoring, communication, teamworking
Remove barriers to progression – support progression towards sustained participation
What?
Redgate Sports works to directly tackle these issues. We work with a wide range of children who face a variety of complex challenges.
We introduce them to sport or get them playing sport again
We help them through sport with mentoring, wellbeing support, life skills
We help them progress in sport with holiday camps, links to local clubs, activity days and more
If delivered in the right way sport can help establish healthy active lives and can improve life outcomes.
